Many of us must have felt awkward when our parents tried to give us dating advice and made everyone in the room feel awkward. After all, how many of those dating advice articles do you actually use? Well, here’s a dating rules guide that may appear ridiculously out of date at first – given that it was published in the Parade Magazine in 1938 – but don’t be too quick to judge! Sure, some of the humorous advice may come across as sexist at times, but the majority of it could be regarded as universally accepted guidelines for good behavior.
Some girls may not like being told not to get sentimental, not to caress her dates too much in public, or to never make a man wait – but when all of this good advice is taken together, it helps to shape the image of a classic woman who knows how to keep a man intrigued. Regardless of the time, it is also a good idea not to get too drunk on the first date, not to talk about previous dates with waiters, and to at least try not to appear bored while playing the dating game. Plus, the vintage magazine images used to illustrate the tips are quite amusing!
